Implementation Support

Cultivate Education logoOverview

Consistently implementing best practices with fidelity has long been a challenging prospect for educators and schools to accomplish and sustain. The current educational complexities have created a scenario in which student strengths and weaknesses are magnified and learning has become increasingly fragmented, as are our instruction and assessment systems we use to keep track of those learning needs. The irony is that to work through these complexities, educators will need to lean even more into implementation fidelity, assessments, teaming and data-based decision making – all at a time when they have little bandwidth to do so.

To succeed in this next phase of education, educators need Coaching and Effective Feedback (See Competency Drivers in MTSS Blueprint for MA). Unfortunately, because educators are busy addressing the immediate needs of students, many schools and districts do not currently have the resources or internal capacity to provide this type of coaching and feedback needed to reach and sustain the long-term improvement we seek. This leaves educators in a vacuum and fails to create conditions that will allow schools to sustainably address student learning needs. In fact, research has shown that only 1 in 3 educational initiatives/programs are successfully implemented and achieve their stated goals.2

With this in mind, Cultivate Education is partnering with schools to address such needs through Implementation Coaching. Utilizing best-practices in implementation science and coaching, our experienced Coaches will assist in better utilizing data to improve instruction to enhance student learning, and celebrate and replicate sustainable success.

Description of  Implementation Coaching Services

Implementation Coaching is a customized service designed to amplify data-based decision making to improve student learning and increase the internal capacity of your leadership team. By thoroughly evaluating your existing implementation levels and drivers, we can match your resource, coaching, and professional developments needs to our network of experienced implementation specialists and coaches.

Coaching researchers have written extensively about the benefits of both individual and group coaching, with recent research indicating that educators who received coaching were four times more likely to carry out newly learned skills than those that did not (Knight 2017). Joyce and Summers (1982) and Rock (2019) found that between 10-15 coaching sessions are needed to improve outcomes, and are most effective when a consistent coaching schedule and collective participation procedures are established and followed.

Whether it is meeting monthly with your school improvement team, providing professional development sessions, or auditing the implementation level of your strategic plan, Cultivate Education will provide enrolled schools with access to highly trained implementation specialists and coaches, who are themselves experienced educators, administrators, coaches, and leaders.

This Implementation Coaching service typically consists of:

      • Monthly data analysis sessions with an Implementation Coach.
      • Unlimited on-call access to the Implementation Coach via phone/email between sessions.
      • In-depth statistical analysis of your data, from the student level through to the building/district.
      • Access to Cultivate Education’s community of Implementation Coaches, researchers, practitioners, and experts in the field of education.
      • A Profile in Progress report that illustrates the journey your staff and students have taken over the year. (Click here for an example)

Objectives of Implementation Coaching Services

  1. Address student learning needs through data-based decision making. (Short Term)
  2. Build collective efficacy in addressing student learning needs and employing data-based decision making. (Mid Term)
  3. Enhance staff capacity to sustain data-based decision making long term. (Long Term)

While these objectives are universal, Implementation Coaching services can be tailored to support and coordinate the specific initiatives of the school/district. This includes priority areas such as School Improvement Plans, School System Accreditation and Strategic Planning, Decision Making Teams, Social-Emotional Learning, Early Warning Systems, MTSS, etc.
